Public Health IRB Submissions using PHIRST

  • What is “PHIRST”?: Electronic submission system for all BSPH IRB applications.

  • How does it work?:  Answer the PHIRST application questions and upload forms from BSPH IRB website

  • How do I get help?: Consult the PHIRST User Guide and PHIRST FAQs as if needed; email bsph.phirsthelp@jhu.edu.

  • Who can submit?:  Only the Principal Investigator (PI) may submit applications.

  • What are the BSPH IRB requirements for human subjects research?: See Guidance and JHSPH IRB Policies.

How To:

  1. Access PHIRST at:  https://phirst.jhsph.edu/

  2. Use your JHED ID/JHED password to log in and register in PHIRST.

  3. For non-JHU affiliates, use the following guides to help create a guest user account in PHIRST and add the BSPH as an affiliated institution:  Creating a Guest Account, Affiliating an Institution in CITI

  4. For further help, contact the PHIRST Help Desk at BSPH.PHIRSTHelp@jhu.edu to request a guest user account.
