Use of AI Disclosure Statements

Use of AI Disclosure Statements

Many publishers are now requiring or encouraging a disclosure of AI usage in manuscripts, including but not limited to Elsevier, Springer Nature, and Sage.

Although the policies vary somewhat, most require:

  1. Which AI tool was used.

  2. How it was used:

    1. To rewrite or edit text

    2. To summarize literature

    3. To draft text

    4. To outline a manuscript

    5. To create a figure or diagram (this may be prohibited)

    6. To translate text

    7. To check grammar

    8. To generate code

  3. The extent of human oversight (how did the author verify the work done by AI?).

  4. The author taking full responsibility.

Consider the following AI Disclosure template:

“In this work, I have used _________________________ to _____________________________. I reviewed, edited, and take responsibility for all outputs of the tools used in this work.”

Examples:

“In this work, I have used ChatGPT to review the entire manuscript for grammar and styling errors. I reviewed, edited, and take responsibility for all outputs of the tools used in this work.”

“In this work, I have used QED-AI to review my manuscript for feedback on data analysis. I reviewed, edited, and take responsibility for all outputs of the tools used in this work.”

“In this work, I have used Elicit to synthesize a broad review of literature on oncology digital health care. I reviewed, edited, and take responsibility for all outputs of the tools used in this work.”
